Dronningruta [The Queen's Route] Dronningruta is a marked trail about 15 km long and is a 'round trip' along the shoreline and over the mountain between Nyksund and Sto in oksnes municipality in Vesteralen. If you are in good physical shape and are used to medium altitudes, this is the trip for you. Certain portions of the trip may seem challenging in terms of heights. The trip can be done in 5-8 hours. This is the route that Queen Sonja of Norway enjoyed trekking in 1994, hence the name 'Dronningruta'. . Considered quite challenging. Red route +++ You can get to Nyksund or Sto by local bus from Sortland, or by private car. By car, you need to take RV 820 from Sortland in the direction of Myre. At Froskeland, you turn right onto RV 821. When you reach the centre of Myre, you turn onto FV 935 in the direction of Sto/Nyksund. It takes a little over an hour to drive to Sto or to Nyksund. Description of the route The trip is a round trip between Sto and Nyksund, and you decide on your own where you want to start. The highest point is Finngamheia (448 mas). The route is signposted with the Hiking Association's Ts at the starting points and along the trail. The hiking surface is mountain rock, earth, stone and peat. Parts of the route run along the shoreline. Along the beach areas, the route has peat and grass ground cover and can be wet. There is a sheep trail up the mountainside at the summit, the ground is hard and stony. There is a steep section from both sides up to the mountain summit. Certain parts are secured with safety ropes. Experiences along this route are numerous. The trip offers not only variation in hiking terrain and splendid vistas, but the starting and stopping points are also two very special sights. Nyksund is an old, once abandoned fishing village that has been resurrected through the efforts of artist residents and and the tourism industry. Sto is a small, charming and active fishing village. Overnight accommodation There are rooms/rorbu cabins/flats for hire in both Nyksund and Sto. There are also places for tenting or having a caravan at the local campsite.

The toughest thing I've ever done. The trail is very well marked with red T's so you can't get lost. It is best to start at Nyksund and first go over the mountains if you want to take the whole circular route. Some parts are very steep and demand climbing. It was a little bit too much for me but I'm very happy I did it. A once in a lifetime-experience.

Piccola insenatura.. nascosta.
