This mountain is home to one of the most important religious sites in Spain. A residence for the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, the mountain is visited not only by those seeking spiritual rewards but also by those looking for one of the most spectaculars views of Catalonia. The history of Montserrat goes back to 880 when a group of shepherd children saw a bright light descending from the sky in the Montserrat mountains. The monks are also the owners of the Publicacions de l'Abadia de Montserrat, a publishing house that continues to operate today. It is the oldest press in the world, having published its first book in 1499. Music lovers will appreciate L'Escolania choir, a boys' choir of sopranos and altos based at the Benedictine abbey. They perform every day at the Basilica of Montserrat. . Here are some of the top restaurants in Montserrat:

The chef here raises even things that are "normal" fare to a new level with delicious twists, quality ingredients, and very fine cooking. Everything we had was delicious but the pumpkin soup that was on offer on the daily menu was just spectacular. Her desserts too are much better quality than in an average restaurant; both the tira misu and the panna cotta were unexpectedly wonderful. The service too was very good. We were never expecting to find this little gem in a tiny Montserrat alley, but were led there by a local. Highly recommend this restaurant: with the high quality of both the chef and the ingredients, anything you order is bound to be terrific. Excellent, excellent value.

The restaurant’s menu includes Mediterranean, Spanish, Catalan, International and available in Vegetarian Friendly, Vegan Options, Gluten Free Options. The prices at Bo2 Restaurant can vary depending on the menu and the time of day, but it is considered to be a mid-priced restaurant.

Bad lunch. The service was good, the place nice and clean. But we have had the worst paella ever. It was burned and the rice was hard, and small portion. Don’t recommend.

We had the best meal of our lives there. We had a three course meal with complimentary wine and bread. My husband had goat’s cheese in filo as a starter, then confit of duck. I had a pork dish (like fillet of pork medallions) and my dessert was a chocolate confection that I’ll never forget. The dishes were master chef standard and beautifully presented. Gordi served and his wife is the chef. The service was attentive and personal.

As a sweet conclusion to our mid-day excursion touring the breathtaking Montserrat, the students and instructors of University of Colorado Boulder’s Summer 2022 Barcelona Global Seminar were fortunate enough to visit this amazing restaurant. An amazing visit. I found a recommendation for this restaurant on a blog, and we went after visiting Montserrat. It’s a gorgeous farmhouse in an olive grove, with outdoor seating. The approach is on a gravel road, which looks like you shouldn’t be there at first, but stick with it! The farmhouse is at the end and you can’t miss it. It closes at 16:30, and we arrived at 15:45, but they still seated us for food. They have a welcome cabin where their host finds you a table. They give you a number, send you in the direction and you find your table. The atmosphere was lovely and felt very authentically rustic and Spanish (which is what we look for). The staff don’t speak much English (it’s very much a locals place) and we don’t speak much Spanish, but they had English printed menus and we got by with some pointing and hand signals! The staff are lovely, very friendly and so helpful. We had the Mountain Paella, which was amazing. You choose your main course, and you get all the starters included and a choice of desert. It’s so much food, and it all tastes great. Other things to note, they don’t like split bills, only one payment per table is taken. They have card machines, so you can pay by card. It was 31euros each for the Paella, but that came with the starters and desert. Drinks and coffees are extra, but they are very reasonably priced. A coffee was 1.60euros and a Coke Zero was 2.50euros. We had a great experience, and will remember this place fondly! I fully recommend coming here for a late lunch after visiting Montserrat. A really authentic experience for tourists who don’t like tourist traps.

Came here straight after seeing the boys choir in the Abbey at around 1.15pm. Actually we rushed over straight from the church to make sure we could get a table! Firstly the waiter thought we were part of a tour group, and was going to direct us out of the restuarant. But we said we were independent travellers. As soon as he heard that he lightened up and promptly showed us to a free table. We ordered the 3 course set lunch. Each of the starter, main course and dessert had a selection of two, so we choose one of each to share. The lunch was really satisfying. Big portions. Starter was the best, with salmon and beef cannelloni - really great. Main course was ok. There was this really bad red sausage which came with the catalon stew which tasted awful. Dessert was ok, but not memorable. Per person we paid just under 30 euro each. We stayed in the restuarant for 1.5 hours. We enjoyed our meal here. The staff were friendly and attentive. Very good

So worth a visit. My parents got married in Montserrat in 1970 and had their wedding reception at Abat Cisneros so in our last trip to Montserrat, she was very keen to eat at the restaurant but a bit apprehensive that it wouldn’t be as good as she remembered .We decided to give it a try and we weren’t disappointed. The food was delicious, very well cooked and beautifully presented. The staff are very professional and knowledgeable about allergies/intolerances and made all changes required to adapt the set menu to my lactose intolerance. They didn’t just remove the items with dairy but they replaced them with others equally delicious that I could eat. The level of care and attention to detail is remarkable. I am sure the place has seen many changes in the last 52 years but it hasn’t lost its class.

Title says it all. We were hungry after a few hours at the Monastery atop the mountain and found this place thanks to Trip Advisor. First, the town is almost void of tourists, which was surprising, but welcome after spending a few days in Barcelona .The food is great and well priced. Patatas bravas, fried pescados, and muscles were great. We sat outside, with a great view of the valley in one direction and the mountain to the other. The place is small, with a simple, casual look. Clean and full of local charm. I loved every second! We were clearly the only outsiders in a busy restaurant, but the wait staff could not be more kind, helping us feel welcome. Overall great experience!

Hostal Monistrol

We were two families from Texas spending 2 weeks on a European vacation, visiting London, Paris and Barcelona European 14 Day trip from Texas. We had spent months planning this trip, to get the best bang for our bucks and see as many sites as possible. We were visiting Barcelona and decided to rent a car and spend the day in Montserrat and the Monastery. We needed to eat breakfast and had planned on picking up something quick on the way, but never really say anything. We were getting close to Montserrat and everyone was getting hungry. We came upon the Hostal and saw a few tour buses that were obviously from Barcelona on their way to the Monastery so we decided to stop here. Two of the rooms were full of of people from the buses dining. We were greeted and quickly seated in a separate table away from the crowds. Our waiter quickly filled our drink orders while we looked at the menus. Then he came back, answered any questions we had, took our order and then brought our our meals. The food was good and filled us up We got the check and were pleasantly surprised on how reasonable it was. On our two week journey eating in the cities we got used to paying way to much for a simple breakfast . Lastly we had heard that in many European cities it is not expected to leave a tip, however, whenever we felt like we received excellent service, we would leave a tip. This was one of those times.

The restaurant’s menu includes Mediterranean, Spanish and available in Vegetarian Friendly. The prices at Hostal Monistrol can vary depending on the menu and the time of day, but it is considered to be a mid-priced restaurant.

Excellent lunch. Is such a great restaurant to go when you visit Montserrat. This little village is about 10 minutes from bottom cable car ride. The food is amazing, feel so homemade but is worth a Michelin Star. I ordered pig cheek, sounds unappetizing but super delicious. My husband ordered soup, wow was so yummy
